Biography

First joining UBC, Inc. in 1998, Dr. Poppe has since provided individual, group and family counseling with patients suffering from chronic pain in a multidisciplinary pain treatment program. He provides psychological intake and discharge reports, develops relapse prevention instruction protocols, and takes a leadership role in program development and evaluation. Dean's also takes on several administrative duties and works as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team in compliance with CARF standards.

Education

After first attaining an Associate of Science degree from Concordia College in 1981, Dr. Poppe then attended the University of Washington where he completed his Bachelor of Science on the Dean's List with a major psychology and a minor in biology. During his undergraduate career, Dean was a member of Golden Key National Honor Society. In 1989, he received his Master of Science in psychology from the University of Utah. He went on to complete his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling Psychology (APA accredited) from Ball State University in 1995 with his dissertation on Metatheoretical Constructs: Implications for Health and Illness Definition Preferences and Health Related Behaviors.

Professional Background

Before finding his way to joining our team at UBC, Inc., Dr. Poppe worked as a psychologist and mental health specialist in several clinics, hospitals, and counseling services across Western Washington. In addition, he also opened a private practice in January, 2001, where he continues to provide individual, group and family therapy for individuals and couples suffering from a variety of diagnoses, including chronic pain. Dr. Poppe also accommodates pre-hire psychological evaluations of public safety candidates (law enforcement and fire safety).
